| 장대건 - 기타의 노래들 ▶한국 기타 연주계의 든든한 미래 카날스, 밀란, 소르 등 유럽의 수많은 국제 콩쿠르를 석권하고, 스페인에서 활동해온 기타리스트 장대건의 한국 데뷔 음반. 상세하고 풍성한 내지 해설도 직접 감수했다. 경력만으로도 독보적이지만 연주를 들으면 더 놀라게 된다. 정교하고 화려한 기교, 깊은 사색, 정감있는 표현 등 그야말로 기타 예술의 진수를 들려준다. ◆장대건의 음반을 내놓으며 우선 앞길이 훤히 열려있는 유망한 기타리스트 장대건의 음반을 폐사에서 내게 되어 연주자 본인만큼이나 기쁘다. 꽤 오래 전에 어떤 유명 기타리스트 연주회장에 갔었던 일이 기억난다. 그때 그의 연주를 듣고 크게 감동한 나는, 우리나라에는 언제나 저런 기타리스트가 등장할 수 있을까 생각하며 줄곧 안타까운 마음을 가졌었다. 아니, 어떤 기대감을 가지고 지금까지 지내왔을 것이다. 그런데 얼마 전 장대건을 처음 만나 직접 그의 연주를 접하고는 내가 오래 전부터 마음속에 지녀왔던 기대가 현실이 되는 것이 아닌가 하는 느낌이 들었다. 현재 장대건이란 이름은 우리나라에서는 기타 매니어 외엔 거의 알려져 있지 않지만, 내지 뒷부분에 실린 그의 이력에서 볼 수 있듯이, 그는 스페인과 유럽 무대에서는 최고의 찬사를 받는 극소수의 젊은 연주가들 중 한사람이다. 장대건은 기타의 본고장 스페인에서 공부하고 그곳에서 오랫동안 활동해온 정통 기타리스트다. 당연히 자부심도 대단하다. 아마 눈치 빠른 애호가들은 흔히 들을 수 없는, 매우 중요한 기타 곡들이 곳곳에 들어 있는 이 음반을 잠깐 살펴보는 것만으로도 그의 경륜이나 아카데믹한 취향을 짐작할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 장대건이 당초에 내놓자고 한 레퍼토리들은 모두 기타의 잠재력과 연주자의 능력을 최고 수준에서 보여줄 수 있는 것들이었다. 많은 연주가들을 만나왔지만, 장대건처럼 자신의 뚜렷한 소신을 피력하고 자신만의 특별한 레퍼토리를 꾸며온 연주가는 드물었던 것 같다. 하지만, 회사에서는 처음부터 어려운 기타 음악을 선보이며 등장하기 보다는 두루 공감할 수 있는 대중적 레퍼토리들을 더러 섞어 첫인상을 조금 편안하게 해보자고 했다. 결국 그는 회사 측의 제안을 받아들여 몇몇 곡들을 다시 가감했다. 그의 연주는 음반을 만들면서 많이 들어봤는데, 역시 완벽한 테크닉이나 음악적 통찰 및 예민한 감수성은 우리가 익히 알고 있는 거장의 그것에 비교해도 손색이 없다. 장대건은 세계 기타 음악의 미래를 이끌어갈 빼어난 인재 중의 한사람이다. 그 사람이 바로 한국인이니, 그는 우리나라 기타연주계의 앞날인 셈이다. 바이올린이나 첼로, 피아노 등 몇몇 인기 악기 분야에서는 우리나라 연주자들이 세계적인 연주자들과 어깨를 나란히 해온지 오래다. 하지만 클래식 기타 분야를 얘기한다면, 이렇다할 연주가를 내세울 수 없는 형편인 것이 사실이다. 이런 상황에서 젊은 기타리스트 장대건은 우리의 척박한 기타 연주계의 토양에 내린 단비이며, 장차 커다란 기타의 나무를 키워갈 수 있는 귀중한 씨앗이라고 믿는다. 그의 끝없는 발전을 기대하며 기꺼이 이 음반을 내놓는다. 기타리스트 장대건 이 시대 기타 음악계를 이끌어갈 연주자로 평가 받고 있는 기타리스트 장대건은 현재 스페인에서 활동하고 있다. 1997년 유네스코 국제 콩쿠르 연맹에 가입된 세계적인 콩쿠르인 스페인의 마리아 카날스 국제 콩쿠르 기타 부문에서 3위에 입상함으로써 크게 주목 받았다. 메이저 국제 콩쿠르에서 입상한 것은 한국 기타 연주계 사상 초유의 일이었다. 이후 2003년까지 루이스 밀란 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 쿠쿨칸 국제 콩쿠르(멕시코), 사라우츠 국제 콩쿠르(스페인)에서 우승했고, 그 외에도 훌리안 아르카스 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 페르난도 소르 국제 콩쿠르(이탈리아), 타레가 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 기타의 봄 국제 콩쿠르(벨기에), 코리아 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 푸엔테 헤닐 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 알함브라 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 안드레스 세고비아 국제 콩쿠르(스페인), 세르난셀레 국제 콩쿠르(포르투갈) 등 20여 국제 대회에서 입상했다. 우리나라뿐만 아니라 외국에서도 짧은 기간에 그렇게 많은 콩쿠르에서 입상하는 것은 아주 드문 일이다. 그의 입상이력은 개인적인 영예일 뿐만 아니라, 한국인 기타리스트의 음악성을 세계에 알리고 나아가 한국의 위상을 높이는데 크게 기여했다. 연주활동도 왕성하다. 지금까지 스페인 전 지역을 포함하여 이탈리아, 독일, 포르투갈, 오스트리아, 스위스, 벨기에, 멕시코, 일본, 서울 등지에서 초청 연주 했고, 멕시코 시티 심포니 오케스트라, 스페인 에우로파 메디테라네아 심포니 오케스트라 등과 협연했다. 실내악 활동에도 꾸준히 관심을 가지고 있는 그는 바이올린, 플룻, 성악, 현악사중주 등과의 다양한 악기와 함께 연주활동을 하고 있으며 2003년 스페인 루이스 밀란 국제 콩쿠르 실내악 부문에서 기타 4중주의 멤버로 상위 입상한 일도 있었다. 재능 있는 후학들을 양성하는 일에도 정성을 쏟고 있는 그는 스페인 아스토르가 국제 음악제, 투이 국제 기타 페스티발, 리카르드 칙 기타 음악제, 발라게르 여름 음악제, 마드리드 헤타페 시립 음악원, 레리다 시립 음악원 등에서 초빙 교수로 일했고, 스페인, 한국, 멕시코에서는 수차례 마스터 클래스를 지도하기도 했다. 심사위원 활동도 주목된다. 스페인 아스토르가 국제 음악제에서 기타 콩쿠르를 주관, 심사했고, 그 외 스페인 바예 데 데구에스 국제 콩쿠르, 스페인 루이스 밀란 국제 기타 콩쿠르 솔로 부문과 실내악 부문의 심사위원으로 위촉된 바 있다. 장대건의 연주는 스페인 국영 텔레비전인 TV 2, Canal 9, Canal Sur, Canal Castellon, Radio 2 Clasica, 한국의 KBS, SBS, Arte TV 등에서 방영 혹은 방송되기도 했다. 장대건은 스페인 바르셀로나 리세오 왕립음악원 그리고 에스콜라 루티에르에서 마누엘 곤잘레스(Manuel Gonz?lez)와 공부하고 알리칸테 고등 음악원에 수석으로 입학하여 세계적인 명교수 호세 토마스(Jose Tom?s)한테 배우고 1997년에 졸업 하였다. 같은 해 스위스 바젤 음대 최고 연주자 과정에 입학, 세고비아의 후계자이자 기타계의 대부인 오스카 길리아(Oscar Ghiglia)의 지도를 받고, 2000년 최고 연주자 과정 졸업 학위인 솔리스텐 디플롬을 받았다. 또 졸업하기까지 고 음악 학교인 스위스 바젤 스콜라 칸토룸 에서 고음악 탄현악기 연주자 피터 크로톤(Peter Croton)에게 바로크 통주저음과 르네상스 탄현악기 연주법을 배우고, 고 음악 부터 현대음악까지 모든 장르의 음악에 대한 세미나 및 마스터 클래스 과정을 레온하르트(G. Leonhardt), 슈나이더(E. Schneider), 아리아가(G. Arriaga), 스미스(H. Smith), 쿠르탁(G. Kurtag)등 저명한 대가들로부터 이수하였다. |
